Audacity: Storytelling with Letisha Bereola
Today we’d like to introduce you to Letisha Bereola.
Letisha B., let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey in media with my best friend in college. We were bored with college life and wanted to stir up some fun. We created a TV show and won a grant from MTVU to fund the production. It was called "College Remixed." I fell in love with the entire process from auditioning hosts, coming up with storylines, editing, graphic design, etc. From there I graduated from FAMU with a broadcasting degree and went to work on-air in TV news. For the past 9 years I've worked in Tallahassee, Mobile, Alabama and now Jacksonville. I started out as an MMJ (shooting, editing, writing, reporting...one woman band) working my way up to Monday-Friday morning news anchor. I'm beginning to branch out and do my own productions beginning with my podcast AUDACITY: Storytelling with Letisha Bereola.
Has it been a smooth road for you? I've struggled with feeling like I'm not fully walking in my purpose. For a long time now, I've had a strong sense or vision about how I would move in this world and I've had a nagging feeling that I'm not quite living that truth yet. I've had to trust God's timing and work through the frustrating feeling telling me I'm not fully ALIVE. I've learned that every piece of my journey works together seamlessly to grow me into the woman God has called me to be. It's my story. I AM right where I need to be and always have been. I think sometimes when you connect with your purpose early on it can feel like A LOT. You want to just be there already. Demand a timeline with dates and times, "When is this going to happen!" It doesn't work like that. You have to put in work, stay in the zone and know that you are building something even when it doesn't look like it.
Please tell us about your WERK: I am a news anchor who tells stories from my community and around the world with heart and clarity. I think viewers KNOW I'm invested in storytelling. I want them to hear the nuances, the layers and humanity in their stories. I'm most proud of my newest endeavor AUDACITY: Storytelling with Letisha Bereola. It's a podcast that delves into the stories of people who are living their dreams and presenting their authentic selves into the world. It takes fearlessness to do that and I drill down to find out where they picked that up along the road of life.
Please share any words of wisdom sister to sister. I've come to the conclusion that every single step I've taken on this earth is working for my GOOD! If I had the choice to take anything away, who would I be? If you've ever felt like you're missing something, like you're not quite where you want to be, don't feel fully ALIVE in your work and life, I want you to know sometimes you have to work at being brave. You have to build yourself up and cultivate the AUDACITY to be who you are.
